Tutoring cost and rates in Barrington, Wheaton, and the Chicago suburbs
Rates are published, hourly, and set by grade level. There are no contracts and no guessing what next month costs before you call. Center and online sessions bill at the published rate, and in-home sessions add $5 an hour.
Hourly rates
Tutoring rates by grade level
One-on-one tutoring is billed by the hour. Your student's grade level sets the rate, and the rate holds for every subject they bring to a session.
Middle school & under
$65 / hour
per hour, all subjects
High school
$75 / hour
per hour, all subjects
First practice test free
ACT / SAT prep
$85 / hour
per hour, + optional $149 workbook
Every rate above applies at either learning center and online. In-home sessions are $5 per hour more than the rates above. Reading intervention for students with dyslexia is quoted after a free consultation, and it runs at the Barrington learning center only. Read about it on the dyslexia tutoring page.
What you are paying for
What the hourly tutoring rate covers
An hour of tutoring is an hour of your student's own tutor, working the material that is actually giving them trouble. Call either center and you will get a straight answer about cost before anything is scheduled.
- 1
One tutor, one student, the whole hour
Every session is one-on-one. Your student sets the pace, asks the questions they would never ask in a full classroom, and gets the hour built around what they are actually stuck on.
- 2
Three settings, two prices
Meet at the Barrington or Wheaton learning center or online at the published hourly rate. A tutor coming to your kitchen is $5 an hour more, so pick whichever setting keeps sessions consistent through the school year.
- 3
A plan that starts from where they are
Tutoring opens with what your student already owns and what they are missing, so nobody pays for hours reviewing material they have down cold.
- 4
One rate for every subject they bring
Algebra, chemistry, essay writing, and reading fluency all bill at your student's grade level rate, so a session can change focus the week their classes do.
Terms
Tutoring with no contracts and a schedule you control
Families sign up when a class goes sideways and stay as long as tutoring is earning its keep. Nothing about the arrangement is designed to keep you in it.
-
No contracts
You are never locked into a term, a package, or a set number of sessions. Tutoring continues as long as it is helping.
-
Change or pause anytime
Add an hour before finals, drop to every other week during the season, or pause and come back. Call your center and it is done.
-
One published rate
The grade level rate covers either learning center and online. In-home sessions add $5 an hour, and nothing else changes the cost.
-
First practice test free
Every ACT and SAT student takes a full official practice test at no charge, and that score report is what their prep plan is written from.
Beyond the hourly rate
ACT and SAT prep costs, and how dyslexia programs are quoted
Test prep: $85 per hour
- First official practice test
- Free. Your student sits a full, timed, official ACT or SAT under real conditions, and the score report becomes the plan: which sections to attack, which content to rebuild, and what pacing to fix.
- Prep sessions
- $85 per hour, one-on-one, at either learning center or online. Add $5 an hour for sessions in your home.
- Workbook
- An optional $149 workbook, so your student can practice from the same material between sessions. Prep runs fine without it.
Dyslexia intervention
Quoted after a free consultation
Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia is built differently from hourly subject tutoring. It runs 4 times a week for one hour over about two years, on site at the Barrington learning center. You hear the plan and the cost before committing to anything.
What tutoring at these rates covers
Pricing questions
What parents ask about tutoring cost
What is included in the hourly tutoring rate?
Your hourly rate covers the full one-on-one session with your student's matched tutor at the Barrington or Wheaton learning center, or online. In-home sessions are $5 per hour above that rate. Sessions are billed by the hour at the rate for your student's grade level, and there are no long-term contracts to sign.
How much more does in-home tutoring cost?
In-home tutoring is $5 per hour more than the same session at a learning center or online, which covers the tutor travelling to your address. There is no separate mileage charge and no minimum number of hours.
Do you offer tutoring packages or prepaid hour bundles?
Tutoring is billed by the hour at the published rates, so you can book as many or as few hours a week as your student needs and change that number later. Call the learning center nearest you to talk through a weekly schedule and what it would cost through the end of the term.
How do we pay for tutoring sessions?
Billing is hourly at the rate for your student's grade level or test prep track, and the learning center walks you through payment before the first session so nothing arrives as a surprise. Call (847) 305-2952 for Barrington or (847) 305-2952 for Wheaton and they will confirm exactly how and when sessions are billed.
Can we change how often our student meets with a tutor?
Yes. You can add hours, cut back, or pause during a busy season, because no contract locks you into a set number of sessions. Tell your learning center what the new schedule looks like and they adjust it going forward.
What happens if we need to cancel a session?
Call the learning center as soon as you know a session will not work and the team will move it or take it off the calendar. Schedules can change at any time, and the earlier you call, the easier your tutor's week is to rearrange.
Is there a sibling rate or a group rate?
The published rates cover one-on-one instruction and are set by grade level, so a middle schooler and a high schooler in the same family are each billed at their own rate. If you are scheduling more than one student, call either learning center and they will look at the whole family's week with you.
Do ACT and SAT prep sessions cost more than subject tutoring?
Yes. ACT and SAT prep runs $85 per hour against $75 per hour for high school subject tutoring, because those sessions combine content review with timed pacing work, test-day strategy, and score tracking. Your student's first official practice test is free, and the optional $149 workbook is there if you want them working from the same book between sessions.
